How CCAP works: Blends Choice/Select cutout at current grading percentages, adds drop credit (hides, offal, tallow), converts to live-weight equivalent, then subtracts packer operating costs and a normal packer margin. The result is what packers can sustainably pay for fed cattle. When actual prices exceed CCAP, packer margins are squeezed — watch for kill cuts. When actual is below CCAP, margins are healthy and cattle have room to rally.
